Bears are a common sight along the river in the beautiful coastal village of Bella Coola, where I used to live.
Their beauty and strength makes them a popular draw for tourism, and Bella Coola is becoming a popular destination for grizzly viewing.
I believe they are a symbol of strength and perseverance, confidence and purpose and also healing. First Nations people see them as a symbol of great healing, as they seemed to be able to heal themselves, even when gravely wounded. A shaman is said to possess the Bear as their totem because of this. But anybody can embody bear energy by bravely stepping into our highest power and moving courageously into our future.
